The Father in Nigeria: the last day

Thursday, 26 July 2018 was the last day of the Father’s stay in Nigeria, and nobody was looking to saying goodbye, neither the Prelate nor those he came to see in Nigeria. Early that day, the Father paid a visit to Msgr. Alfred Martins, the Archbishop of Lagos, in his house. They chatted for more than half an hour. Later he went into the Cathedral for a brief time of prayer.

Throughout that day, the Father had get-togethers with several groups of people. In one of them someone asked him for the main points or lessons he wanted his Nigerian children to always keep in mind from this visit. In response, he encouraged us to struggle so that the Lord may be the centre of our life, being very united to one another through our fraternity. He also said that we should know how to recover our interior freedom whenever we lose it, in order to do things for love of God.

When it came time to leave for the airport, the Father gave us his blessing commenting that we are still very much in the beginnings of Opus Dei. He said with a smile, that it was difficult for him to depart, particularly as he was already starting to get very comfortable here. He encouraged us to take advantage of all the good vibes of these days in order to harvest many apostolic fruits, first in ourselves.

At the airport, he was able to spend time with some families of supernumeraries and cooperators who had come to bid him farewell. In all, and like St. Josemaría, the Prelate was able to transmit hope to all of us, along with the certainty that we were capable of accomplishing things considered impossible through the grace of God.
